The XLR8 Utility presents the information provided by the CPU (TAU). If the CPU is reporting a temperature, then this is shown in the dialog box when XLR8 MAChSpeed Control is active and running.
The temperature issues of 7410 TAU issues are documented:

In the above errata... the long and short of it is that, "This erratum will not be fixed in future revisions of the MPC7410; use of the TAU on the
MPC7410 is not supported..."
Even though the temp may be inaccurate and is not supported by the CPU manufactuere, we do continue to use it. From our tests of thousands of 7410 upgrades going through the shop, we found that we can use the information. We also found that when the CPU hits an extreme overheat situation, two things are assured; 1. The CPU will report a temp, and 2. The temp will most likely be accurate enough for MSC to report the "overheat" status.
The Chip should run for at least 5 minutes before expecing the temp to be readable.
If no temp is being reported, the temp is okay. In every case, the temp will begin reporting before an overheat situation.
If the temp is reading from 45 to 95c degrees, it is accurate. The CPU overheat temp is 100c degrees. The CPU is actually rated to 110c.
If the temp is reading from 13 to 19c. It is inaccurate, but we have found that 13-15 is good. 18-19 is too hot.
If the temp is reading from 6 to 12c. It is inaccurate, but we have found that 6-8 is good. 11-12 is hot.
If the temp is reading from 22 to 29c. It is inaccurate, but we have found that 24-25 is good. 28-29 is hot.
MAChSpeed Control will present an overheat warning when the temp hits 90c. In every case documented, the CPU begins reporting accurate when it hits this temp.
As a "manual" temp test. Feel the top of the heat sink. It should be hot to touch. If you have to jerk your hand away, it's too hot. If it is cool, then chances are that the heat sink is not prepped or installed properly. Shut down remove it and look to see that the grease (as thin a layer as possible) is making contact. Adjust and reinstall.
