I have a Lombard fitted with the Daystar upgrade card. It ran faultlessly until I trashed the package files on the hard drive and then I had to do a re-install of OSX. I had previously installed OSX 10.3 with some issues in starting from the DVD drive but it ran without any issues whatsoever until I intervened.
I have managed to start up on one or two occasions from the DVD drive and attempt a reinstall using a set of disks meant for an eMac with 10.3.5. (They work fine on other similar age machines we have) These were stalling part way through the process - I think this was due to too much Ram on board. I tried using Xpostfacto and this removed the restriction on installing on the initial 6GB partition - I wanted to try installing on a disk with only one partition or with a safety partition with just a system and some tools on it. Nice idea no joy.
After going though these forums I have zapped Pram, removed half of the RAM but the computer insists on starting up from a previous unsuccessful OSX install. In order to progress I need to be able to start up from the DVD drive but no-joy.
I have tried starting up holding down option - which should force a choice of start-up systems but this does not work.
Any suggestions as to a way forward - I cannot install OSX via any other machines as the combinations of systems and drive options prevent this.
Also does anyone have any thoughts as to the suggestion of two systems one to run it one to mend it? I have this on other Macs but they do not have a restriction on where you can install the system. Sorry if this feel very esoteric. Like many other people I feel the Lombard is a great design - Thanks to Daystar there is still life in it yet - I also run an even older minitower - can't see why I should leave these machines behind when upgrading. Next year they will get to ten years of service - what other system could do that!

| Also, would I need to work around the fact that the XLR8 driver would not be installed until after the OS - I still have the G3 card - with faulty cache - bit it should still work with a hard re-set every time.
